It was known as 'celery root' 'knob celery' or tunip-rooted celery', it is kid of the celery and grown as root vegetable for large and the bulbous hypocotyls for its leaves and stem. Swollen hypocotyls is used typically with it is about ten to twelve centimeters, about size of large potato.

 

It is unlike other root vegetable that store large amount of starch, e celery root is about 5-6% by the weight. Celeriac may also used cooked or raw, it has furrowed, tough, outer surface is sliced usually off before use due to it is too rough to the peel. It has Celery flavor and is used often as flavoring in the stews and soups, it can be used on usually mashed, gratin, casseroles and baked dishes.

 

Hollow stalk of upper plant is cut sometimes into drinking straw rinsed, lengths and used in serving of the tomato-based drinks as bloody straw length and used in serving of the tomato-based drinks as Bloody Mary cocktail. Tomato juice is flavored lightly with celery as passed through stalk. It is not widely used as other root vegetable, and perhaps because it is much hard to clean and prepare. Numbers of cultivars are there, in Europe especially. Among them Diamant, Pinz, Kojak are received Royal Horticulture Society Award of the Garden Merit in trail in year 2000.

 


Normally Celeriac keeps well and it should last 3 to 4 months if it is stored between 0 Degree C and 5 Degree C not allow drying out. When buying fresh celeriac form store, so you can easily identify celeriac by large, a bulbous root grows to average of about 3.5 inches in its length, once you have purchased, our can store it safely in your home for a week, just remove the leaves and stalks and then store it in cool place such as refrigerator.
